Be still my heart… boy do we love a good ceremony arch! This one was the backdrop for a gorgeous ceremony at Glen Cove Mansion. We’re still ooohing and ahhhing over this magnificent work of art by Pedestals Floral Decorators!
Long gone are the days of traditional ceremonies! We’re loving the fun and different ways our couples are saying “I do!” Take Frank and Alice for example. They utilized an unused space in the beautiful Hempstead House in Sands Point to create an intimate and romantic scene for their ceremony!!
Sometimes after planning a wedding for over a year, it’s nice to sit back and watch as your vision comes to life. This tented wedding at Chelsea Mansion in Muttontown started as a blank slate and turned into a beautiful fairy tale. Although we didn’t have a ton of time to reminisce on the actual wedding day, it’s so much appreciated to receive photos like this from our amazing team of photographers!
We’re so excited to share that we’ve won another WeddingWire Couples Choice Award!! We are so blessed to work with such fabulous couples and families who love to share their great experiences with future clients!! We can’t wait for another amazing year with our 2018 couples! It’s going to be a blast!
With all this rainy weather in NY, we are pretty sure that all the brides and grooms getting married are a little mad at Mother Nature. Well rest assured that no matter the weather, you can have the most AMAZING time at your wedding!
Take Chrissy & Pete for example, a fun couple we worked with last June. Set under a tent in the backyard of the groom’s beautiful Long Island waterfront estate, this June wedding was a gorgeous affair. The gloomy, rainy day added a touch of ambiance to a magical night with 375 of the bride’s and groom’s closets friends and family!
The inspiration for this wedding all began with the beautiful property and the bride and groom’s personal interests. Mixing the groom’s love for boating and the bride’s girly personality, we worked with this couple to create a “shabby chic nautical” wedding. An inspiration board was styled by Above All Events to help direct Chrissy and Pete in the right direction, working together and incorporating the two themes to make them one.
With a background in graphic design, the groom created all of the wedding stationery, including a personalized monogram which set the tone. A beautifully designed anchor with the date and couple’s initials was the starting point of the groom’s vision. This monogram spread throughout their invitations, menus, donation cards, seating charts and bar menus.
Above All Events worked with the couple to arrange and design a space that was functional, yet beautiful. 38 banquets tables were situated under the tent with 3 different tablescapes to add highs and lows with a touch of uniqueness. Amongst the various table designs candles, hurricane vases, lanterns, ropes and custom floral arrangements (including stunning peonies) were used to create a nautical wedding with a splash of shabby chic.
The estate was decorated to the brim with many DIY items, including tall guest seating chart chalkboards, welcome and instagram signs, photo booth props and a photo collage book, all of which Above All Events helped to put into motion. Furniture and decor items were specially designed and built by Decco. These items included four drift wood bars, a custom cigar bar and a DJ front board. Spreading these items around the property brought the theme together throughout. Above All Events worked hand-in-hand with Decco to drape Edison bulbs above the dance floor.
Despite the torrential downpour, the bride and groom kept their spirits high and danced the night away with music from Bravura Entertainment.
On this frigid February day, we wanted to take you back to the first weekend of SUMMER 2015, where we worked with the most fun and down to earth couple! Last June, Jacqueline & Casey tied the knot at the gorgeous Martha Clara Vineyard. The bride and groom’s love for country music inspired this barn-style wedding filled with personal touches and fun décor. This stunning wedding is loaded with tons inspirations for any country bride, including gorgeous burlap lined invitations from the talented Jess at Whimsy B Paperie.
As guests entered the wedding, they admired the beautiful vineyard and stable views while the country tunes of guitarist Ricky Roche played in the background. The bride and groom, along with Above All Events, designed this rustic barn, which included colorful floral décor, country props, tons of mason jars (you can’t have a country wedding without mason jars), edison bulbs strung across the ceiling alongside white chinese paper lanterns, burlap custom banners hung throughout the barn, and of course, burlap runners draped over the tables. A simple, yet elegant cake made by the groom’s sister in law, sat upon a wine barrel in the corner of the barn. Guests were wined and dinned by Irish Coffee Pub as they danced to the sweet melodies of Code Bleu. As guests left, they were encouraged to “Spread the Love” with a jar of jam made by the bride and groom. Forged in the North captured the day perfectly, including a gorgeous sunset at the Martha Clara.
Held at the romantic Bourne Mansion in Oakdale, New York, this beautiful mansion wedding was filled with glam and style on a gorgeous May day!
High School sweethearts, Makenzie and Kyle were such a beautiful couple to work with. Blush pink set the tone for this magical spring black tie affair. Jessica from Whimsy B. Paperie designed stunning letterpress invitations, which helped inspire the design and style of the wedding day. The bride, ornamented with special touches by Ashleigh Malangone NY, wore a gorgeous Vera Wang gown and Christian Dior shoes. Ashleigh added her dazzle and bling to the bride’s bouquet and styled and designed the bride’s accessories.
From the moment guests arrived they knew this was going to be a wedding like no other! The grand entrance of the Bourne Mansion was adorned with flowers and mercury glass galore, as the guests sipped champagne, explored the old world feel of the mansion and saw a glimpse of past family weddings – years of love and tradition to be treasured and shared with their guests.
The main ballroom of the mansion, which was once the site of Cornelius Vanderbilt’s daughter’s wedding, was jaw-droppingly gorgeous. Tables were dressed with mercury vases filled with pale pink roses and white hydrangeas, draped in crystals. Hundreds of candles filled the room, creating the perfect romantic ambiance for an elegant ballroom wedding. Gorgeous ruffled pink linens and chair covers added to the “wow” factor when guests stepped into the room. This stylish wedding filled with elegance and beauty was perfectly executed alongside many of Long Island’s top wedding vendors, including above all EVENTS, Christina Bohn Photography, Joseph Edward Films, Ashleigh Malangone NY, Whimsy B. Designs, Flowers by Brian, Virginia Linzee, Nicole D’Angio Master Stylist, Mark of Elegance Limo and One Step Ahead.
Choosing the perfect cake that you and your guests will enjoy is a difficult (yet delicious) part of planning your wedding. Making sure to consider your theme, color scheme, the season of your wedding, and of course your taste preferences can quickly make the process overwhelming, and with so many options for style, flavor, and design it seems almost impossible to decide. But we’re here to help with our favorite cake trends of 2015!
No, the bakery didn’t forget to ice your cake because they ran out of time – it’s supposed to look like this! The naked cake is a take on the traditional tiered cake (sans frosting of course). With a naked cake, your guests can see exactly what scrumptious fillings they’re biting in to. This rustic cake is also ideal for an outdoor spring or summer wedding since melted frosting won’t be a worry!
Another nontraditional take on your wedding cake are these pint sized treats. Many couples decide against mini cakes because they might come across as too casual but with the addition of decorative cupcake liners, ornate stands and beautiful decorations they can be just as elegant as a traditional cake (and not to mention twice as fun!)
In 2014, gold cakes were all the rage. This season, the metallic palate has expanded to include bronze, silver and copper hues. Metallics allow you to have a traditional cake when it comes to the structure but with a modern and glamorous twist. And if full on shimmer is too much for your taste, think about metallic accent flowers or adding just one metallic tier.
Wedding Cake Trio Tables
Having what seems like a never-ending debate with your significant other over your wedding cake? Well before ending your marriage (before it even begins) over it, just pick them all! The beauty of a cake trio is that your guests aren’t forced to eat a cake they hate, everyone can choose the cake that appeals to them. And better yet, the cake table makes for a gorgeous display at your reception!
Happy #WeddingWednesday! This week, we’re all about themes – a MUST HAVE for any wedding. As a bride, you’ll want to decide your theme well before you pick your venue – your theme will help you determine things like your ideal location/scenery, floral types, and stationery style (our gal Jessica at Whimsy B. Paperie is the best!). And if you’re lucky enough to have an awesome wedding planner (ahem… us!), you’ll even think about the nitty gritty details like silverware style, napkin folding techniques and custom glassware options for your tablescape… all of which will complement your overall theme.
Here we have a few of our favorite themes, and venues too! Think of these as free inspiration boards for all of you brides to be!
Think luxury, glamour, dreamy. Castle weddings are truly one of a kind. Every detail needs to be perfectly planned to ensure the true beauty of the location and of the day stand out. Places like Oheka Castle, Pleasantdale Chateau and Sands Point Preserve are the creme de la creme of Castle weddings.
A laid back, rustic garden wedding can be one of the most beautiful (and not to mention fun) weddings! The great thing about a wedding of this theme is that you can really get imaginative and go above and beyond with planning the small details – and your guests will be sure to remember them! This wedding season we’re loving venues like Martha Clara Vineyard, NY Botanical Gardens and Chelsea Mansion. They all offer very different “garden-like” atmospheres, and are pretty much a clean slate in creating a gorgeous and rustic wedding event!
We love nothing more than getting dressed to the nines for a beautiful evening out. And that’s what guests that attend an elegant ballroom wedding expect – glitz, glam and elaborate decor. NYC is famous for it’s stunning ballroom venues like Capitale and The Pierre, two breathtaking venues that are out-of-this-world gorgeous. And NJ is home to some spectacular elegant ballrooms like The Rockleigh and The Venetian, both of which boast ornate ceilings and decor that help create a glamorous ballroom affair.
From decor like ghost chairs, to gorgeous floral designs draped with colorful orchids, the modern chic wedding is trendy on the outside but traditional on the inside. Many of today’s modern chic weddings have a little of every theme rolled up into one – they rely heavily on over-the-top floral arrangements, and beautiful venues that emit every bit of glam. Most modern venues can be found in major cities – and since NYC is our playground, we’re extremely found of venues like the Tribeca Rooftop and Glass Houses. What we love about these venues is that you can create a breathtaking wedding event from the ground, up.
We hope these themes have inspired you a little to think outside the box and explore your inner wedding goddess! And remember, using a wedding planner (like us!) will help you create the wedding of your dreams, no matter what your theme is!
In this week’s vendor spotlight, we’re excited to showcase one of our favorite videographers: J Castillo Films, a New York-based boutique cinematography studio that was established in 2011 by the husband and wife team of JayR Castillo and Sigh Robes. Their keen artistic eyes and their background as musicians have helped them offer unique and high quality wedding films to their clients. As a boutique studio, they only accept a limited number of clients per year to maintain and deliver the highest quality of products to their clients.
Today, this fabulous husband and wife duo share with us (and our brides) why they love what they do and the importance of hiring a videographer for your special day.
How did you get into wedding videography business? Why do you enjoy it so much?
We love attending weddings and we love taking videos! We’ve been in the industry for a while and realized that we can bring something refreshing and fun to capturing moments during weddings. What started initially as a small start up blew up in a matter of weeks after we launched and we are very thankful to those who appreciate what we do.
We enjoy filming weddings because we love to capture the emotions that unravel during a very important day like this — which normally happens once in a lifetime for most people. On top of this, weddings are always a party — and party equals FUN!
Why should a couple hire a professional wedding videographer?
Weddings only happen once in a lifetime and hiring a professional wedding cinematographer is very essential. Our goal is to capture and create wedding films that our clients will love and be proud of for the rest of their lives. We put together a cinematic story of the most important day of their lives like no other can.
What is your favorite moment to capture during a wedding?
We love to capture clients reciting their personal wedding vows to each other. When do they get to say these words again to each other? Probably never again – and capturing this on video is priceless. An avalanche of emotions happen when these personal vows are recited by couples to each other in front of their family and friends — we just love, love, love it!
How do you film a first look without making it look staged?
It’s important for us to capture the real moment when our couples see each other for the first time. However, we still have to plan for the first look location and make sure that the bride and groom don’t see each other and so we have coordinate with their photographers and wedding planners. This ensures that when the couple finally sees each other, we are out of the way, filming and letting the magic happen.
What wedding details are a MUST to catch on film?
Most people think that the bride preparation can be skipped when trying to create a video timeline for the day. However, we feel that it is a MUST to film the preparation since this is the only time we can artistically film the dress and shoes and other details before the bride wears them. Add to this the fact that the preparation shows how the bride (and the rest of her entourage) acts prior to getting married — you get to feel the nerves, the fun, etc. and we feel capturing these give more meaning to the day itself.
What inspires you during the video editing phase? How do you differentiate your videos from one another?
As we edit each film, we are reminded that we are telling the story of two people in love who, despite all odds, found each other and vowed to spend their lives together. LOVE all around inspires us and it brings us great joy to create a story that our couples will cherish for the rest of their lives.
Since we like to film organically and usually let things unfold, the personality of the couple usually shine through in their videos — making each of the films we capture unique.
If you could give a bride one piece of advice when searching for a wedding videographer, what would it be?
SIMPLE! –> When they are on Google search for J Castillo Films and book them 😉 But seriously, meet with the videographer; do your due diligence by watching both the recap and the full length films before you decide who to book; and trust your gut.
You can see more of J Castillo Films’ amazing work on their YouTube page here. Also make sure to check them out on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest! We look forward to sharing more vendor spotlights with you soon!
